His main research interests are cancer, ‘medically unexplained symptoms’, and evidence-based primary care. His work in cancer focuses on the role of primary care in screening, early diagnosis and management. The main emphasis of the work on medically unexplained symptoms has so far been on patients who are frequently referred from primary to secondary care - we are interested in developing new ways of responding to the needs of these individuals. Professor Liz GrantProgramme Co-DirectorLiz is a Senior Lecturer in Global Health and Development. Her teaching and research areas include public health research, global health workforce issues and palliative care. Professor Grant works part time for the National Health Service (NHS) Lothian as an international health advisor and African Health and Social Care specialist.Dr Robin RamsayClinical Programme DirectorDr Robin has worked with The University of Edinburgh since 2014 helping to initiate, develop and deliver the Master of Family Medicine programme.He is currently working as a Family Doctor in Blackridge which is 30 miles West of Edinburgh.Robin has a passion for Family Medicine and it’s contribution to Global Health. He has taken opportunities throughout his career to experience primary care settings around the world having worked in Uganda, the Philippines and Nepal. Robin helped to establish the programme in 2014 and has enjoyed teaching many students from diverse backgrounds over the years. He has led on development and improvement of the programme. He has special interests in primary palliative care, family medicine development and health sciences education. He enjoys enjoy outdoor pursuits, jogging, classical music and interesting conversations. He is an enthusiastic kitchen slave to his wife, Penny, who cooks beautifully when not running a busy primary care nursing practice, running marathons and studying. He is father to Laura who cooks and dances and works in online education, and Charlie who is a physiotherapist.Dr Lin WatsonFamily Doctor, LecturerLin is a family doctor in a busy city centre practice in Edinburgh. She has a breadth and depth of experience in teaching under- and post-graduate medics. Having studied medicine at Edinburgh University, Lin then moved to London working in the field of paediatrics to obtain membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. She has since been training and then working as a GP and teaching for over 15 years. She has interests in communication skills, reflection, women's health and global health improvement. Lin enjoys spending her spare time with her son and growing flowers and vegetables on her allotment.Dr Felicity KnightsTeaching FellowFelicity is a GP Academic Clinical Fellow, with research and teaching experience in community health and vulnerable groups, quality improvement and global health. She works clinically as a family doctor in South London and is part of the Migrant Health Research Group at St George’s, University of London. Her current international roles include international health and migrant health lead for the European Young Family Doctors Movement, and trustee of Afrinspire, an international development charity.Dr Dave Fearon LecturerDave has written and contributed to numerous articles and specialist region-specific research publications. In 2022, Dave received a 'Supervisor of the Year' nomination in the EUSA Teaching Awards and was quoted as the "best teacher to guide in research".Dr Colan RobinsonTeaching FellowColan has over 20 years' experience as a GP educator and has a special interest in professionalism and how to establish Family Medicine in less resourced areas. He spends a large part of his time away from teaching by the sea, either sea-swimming, paddle-boarding or walking along the coast and also enjoys motorcycling and watching rugby.
