Research for Global and Local Development : Understanding International Development, the Global Challenges and their Context The Global Academies, IAD, BBSRC and the Research Support Office are supporting a series of six, short, lunchtime events which will provide an invaluable framework for academics who want to contribute to the global development research agenda, including the new Global Challenges Research Fund. There will be opportunities for questions, discussions and networking at each event. Understanding International Development, the Global Challenges and their Context - 2nd November 2016 Keynote Speaker: Dr Sue Kinn, Head of Research for Health and Education, DfID Dr Kinn will be providing insights into the wider international development and aid landscape with particular reference to the role of research and academia in it. Professor Sue Welburn will present experiences of conducting research with partners and identify ways to enhance practice and respond to poor practice Building International Partnerships in Developing Countries - 30th November 2016 Given that the research agenda is a shared global agenda this event will discuss building supportive and ethically sound relationships, working together internationally and sustaining those relationships. Understanding Governance and Compliance for Research in Developing Countries - 11th January 2017 This wide ranging event will provide brief insights into ethics, Duty of Care, as well as legal and financial relationships with partners. Assessing Risks in Proposals and in the Field for Research in Developing Countries - 25th January 2017 This event will provide insights into understanding, identifying and mitigating some of the risks specific to international development research both at proposal stage and in the field. Understanding ODA Compliance, Impact and their Legacy in Developing Countries - 8th February 2017 ODA compliance and impact bear similarities in the relationship between intention, action and evidencing, with local partners having a key role to play in both. This event will explore the similarities and differences further.
